Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany
The Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD) not only belongs to the greatest universities nationwide in terms of research and teachings. The TUD is as autonomous and self dependent as no other German university with a public assignment. Since January 1, 2005 the TU Darmstadt as a model for progressive universities has been provided with broad autonomy by state law and has justified this enormous confidence for many years through an excellent reputation, economic handling of global budgets and quality evaluation within the scope of international partner networks. Excellent ranking benchmarks in mechanical engineering, computer science and business administration, electrical engineering, human and social sciences affirm the right course.
Multidisciplinarity has a long tradition at the Technische Universität Darmstadt: Science decades, natural, engineering, human and social scientists pursue cooperative research. The TU Darmstadt brand has an excellent reputation in the automotive industry, aviation enterprises, chemical industry as well as in the engineering sector or at leading information technology enterprises. Additionally, the TU Darmstadt occupies leading positions worldwide in production management, material science and fluid mechanics. Regarding further fields of research, the Darmstadt scientists are at the same eminent level as other departments or institutes from Europe or the United States of America as well. The focal point, biological-technical systems as a result of the conjunction of biotechnological, biology, medicine and engineering technologies, yields profit. The exploratory focus, computational engineerings, is classified as highly innovative. Outstanding teams address themselves in the cluster IT security to questions of biometrics and protection of data privacy. Whether technical combustion, functional materials, urban research or integrated traffic systems, the Technische Universität Darmstadt occupies these areas of expertise and provides a fertile framework for creativity.
The university as a beacon of Darmstadt, as a City of Science, with almost 140,000 residents, acquires its great attraction also from the collaboration with excellent non-academic research establishments, e.g. the Heavy-Ion Research Institute of the Helmholtz Association. There is a close personal and research-related relationship to four Fraunhofer Institutes of the Fraunhofer Society: The Institute for Secure Information Technology, the Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability, the Institute for Computer Graphics and the Integrated Publication and Information Systems Institute. The Technische Universität Darmstadt insistently emphasizes quality in teachings, and studies: The TUD guarantees all students, by law, to lay the foundations for high-grade and continuous studies and a successful degree. Currently, the study programs are reorganized into bachelor and master systems. These degrees will be accepted without reservation at every other highly rated technical university nationwide as well as all over the world, if a student from the TUD enrolls there.
